Théophile Steffen (1921 – 2021) had three passions in his life: photography, painting and nature. During his strolls he wasn’t only looking for motives to photograph or to paint, but also on the search for quiet and silence, since he lived through the horrors of World War II as a forcibly recruited youngster.
“To transform the outer landscape into the inner landscape and to sublime the moment”, that was his central theme as an artist for nearly seventy years.
In love with his native country, the Oesling region was to him an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Rather than passion, it almost was an essential desire to face the motif in his immediate environment and to get it on paper or on the canvas. In November one can admire the beloved Luxembourger painter’s works in the Maison de la Culture in Diekirch.
